Sunday School

Bethel Church has Sunday School classes most every Sunday morning starting at 11:00 a.m.

Educational Ministry Goals

Content Goal: to provide all members with a comprehensive knowledge of the biblical material of the Old Testament and the New Testament, and a solid base of knowledge of biblical doctrine through instruction in historic Reformed Catechisms.

Faith Goal: to challenge each student, both child and adult, to believe with all their heart in the God revealed in the Bible, and to instruct them in ways that their faith may be given concrete shape in their lives.

Functional Goal: to develop in each student the ability to work with the Word in their own lives, thus enabling the development of personal faith and life growth, and the public articulation and confession of the Reformed faith.

Children's Classes

There are classes for children as young as 2 years old through adult classes. Children ages 2 through sixth grade begin the Sunday school session together in the Sanctuary for a time of singing and announcements.

The 2 and 3 year old class has a time for a Bible story, a lesson, and a time for crafts and games.

The 4 year old through sixth grade classes use Great Commission materials and meet in the following classes:

4 year old through Kindergarten class
First grade through third grade class
Fourth grade through sixth grade class

The seventh and eighth grade classes study God's Word through a Bible overview class.

The ninth and tenth grade classes study the catechism.

The eleventh and twelfth grade classes focus on Christian ethics in order to prepare for adult life.

Adult Classes

Our Adult Education program is designed to train the wide diversity of folks we serve, from the traditional and mature Reformed believer, to the long time Christian from non-Reformed backgrounds, to the new Christian, who may come from any background, including pagan. We designed a curriculum that has several key components:
  • The calendar is divided into 4 quarters of 8 to 10 weeks each, beginning in August. Each course is one quarter in length. Quarters are divided from each other by a week designated for special purposes: friend day (evangelism), special fellowship time, a video or film of high quality for the entire church, etc.
  • Each quarter, multiple courses are offered as electives for the Adults. In-depth studies in Bible books (e.g. Genesis, Deuteronomy, Romans, Colossians, Ephesians, etc.) studying directly from the text of Scripture are frequently offered. In addition, Biblical Application classes are provided on a variety of subjects. Recent course titles included "Reformed Lifestyle In The 21st. Century", "The Christian Walk", "The Fruit of the Spirit", "Being Intentional about Evangelism", "Worship Music Training", "Building a Godly Marriage", "Parenting Principles", "Financial Stewardship", "Evaluating Film and Videos", "Counseling The Hurting Saints", "Understanding Spiritual Gifts", "Call Me When You're 20", "Prayer", "Christian Living in the Home", "Building A Marriage That Sings"; etc..
  • Each summer, the courses vary to accommodate scheduling changes and to allow children's Sunday School teachers to take courses. Courses include challenging films or videos, or that establish each class as a stand-alone one, which doesn't depend as much on previous weeks.
